MNS Attorneys is preparing to interdict and sue the producer of a highly defamatory video relating to work done by the firm for the Gauteng Provincial Government.
The home-made video draws on incorrect and false reportage of legal services provided to the then-MEC for Housing, Mr Paul Mashatile, by News24 earlier this month, and has been published on numerous social media platforms.
While MNS Attorneys is fully committed to the right of freedom of expression, it cannot allow the false and defamatory remarks made in the video to go unchallenged.
Earlier this week, a letter of demand was issued to the producer of the video, Jason Mabaso, who operates under the name of “jayofficialbookings”, to remove the video from social media platforms and to record and post an appropriate and unconditional apology to MNS and its chairman, Mr Mncedisi Ndlovu, on the same internet pages where the video was posted.
Mabaso was also instructed to refrain from recording and/or distributing videos or posting statements containing false and defamatory information about MNS.
Mabaso has not complied with this request, and MNS is now in the process of obtaining an interdict against him for his unlawful conduct. In addition, MNS will institute court action seeking an order for appropriate damages.
MNS regards the video as a nonsensical attempt to defame the company and its chairman, and totally rejects any suggestion of impropriety in the legal services provided to the Gauteng Department of Human Settlements (GDHS) in relation to the Gauteng Partnership Fund (GPF).
